Innovation is often the synthesis of existing ideas, technologies, behaviors, incentives, or business models into more effective solutions to existing problems.
The intermittent windshield wiper is a classic example. The windshield, wiper, and motor existed and were in use together. Timers also existed. The innovation was recognizing a missing connection and creating a new standard. My life’s work is forged from the same principles.
For over 35 years, across 32 industries, I have focused on creating, capturing, and capitalizing future standards. As a Synthesist, I identify valuable relationships people overlook, combine existing elements in new ways, protect the resulting intellectual property, and build the commercial frameworks required to create enduring value. I founded three SaaS companies built upon this principle.
As Founder/CEO of Food for Health®, I applied the Synthesist construct to one of society's most significant challenges: chronic disease. Food for Health® pioneered personalized, precision food-as-medicine through patented technologies that leverage peer-reviewed clinical evidence, behavioral science, and data-driven recommendations to help individuals make informed nutrition decisions and improve health outcomes. I conceived the digital solution more than a decade before the market was ready for it, transforming a 5,000-year-old practice into a personalized, scalable, evidence-based platform. Today, as the vision is validated by market demand, Food for Health® is defining the standard for clinically authentic personalized food-as-medicine, at the intersection of food, nutrition, agriculture, healthcare, and wellness.
Syndicast® addressed the challenge of digital content distribution long before streaming, targeted content delivery, and dynamic audience-specific programming became commonplace. By combining existing technologies in a novel way, it established new possibilities for content syndication and distribution.
Reshare® addressed a fundamental challenge long before ecommerce became mainstream: brands needed direct relationships with consumers without disrupting value-added channel partners. The resulting platform and patent portfolio established a framework that anticipated decades of channel-conflict evolution created by the Internet.
While industries, technologies, and business models have changed, the underlying pattern has remained remarkably consistent: identify what is missing, create the missing connection, protect the resulting advantage, and transform it into a new standard.
I remain passionate about innovation, intellectual property, business strategy, leadership, mentoring, philanthropy, and solving meaningful problems that create lasting value for consumers, organizations, and society.
